Mexico, Spring Break 2008

K.C., his family and I ventured to near Tulum, Mexico this last week. We saw the Mayan ruins, swam, snorkeled, kayaked, slept, and slept. Very nice week enjoying the Yucatan Peninsula. I wish I spoke Spanish.

That's right... different day, same clothes. Welcome to Mexico, where we live just like Gilligans Island

"Who's Pickin' The Banjo Here?"

When I was in my first year of dental school, I found an old banjo in my parents' attic. I think it was my brother Vince's. I stole it, put a new head and bridge on it and started to learn to play. I should have been studying, but, after two weeks, I could do this....(I took this video with my first digital camera, thus the poor quality)

Eagletail Wilderness

Two weeks ago, the father-figure and I ventured to the Eagletail Wilderness hike to view some ancient writings on some rocks. About a 10-mile hike. It's crazy how people lived out there in the desert.

Old pictures

I started scanning old pictures that were taken before there were such things as digital cameras. Here are a few of the first...

Dallas ages: 3 (with my favorite overalls), 16 (the first skurfer, oldschool), 17 (lake saguaro), 17 (at Canyon Lake) and 24 (cliff jumping at Lake Travis in Austin, I'm on the far left)

Picture Pop-ins

There have been many Japanese families who get their Disneyland pictures back from Walgreen's to see some goofy kid, looking straight at the camera, picking his nose and smiling in the background of their photos. That kid was me. The key to a proper "pop-in" is that the people who are in the picture must not know what is going on behind them until the pictures are viewed or developed. Very exciting!

Check these out...

The funny thing about this beach one is the guy's shorts in the background. Those are better than .007's in Casino Royal! See for yourself. Click to enlarge.

Boat Show

If I were a rich man.....

.

I went to the annual Arizona National Boat Show last night. (like I do every year) This is the boat I would love to have. It will have wait until I hit the Lotto. I was able to shake hands and clap backs with pro riders such as Shaun Murry... very nice guy. He autographed a poster for me. I like to meet celebrities.

It's a hole...... in the ground.

It's the Grand Canyon. I went there last weekend. I spoke to not two, but THREE different foreigners while I looked at the big ditch we like to call the Grand Canyon. See for yourself. I close my eyes in pictures because the sun is bright. (just like My Name Is Earl)

Battleship Rock

For years, as part of a pseudo-tradition, we have climbed the Superstition Mountains on New Years day. Why? Is it to remind ourselves we are out of shape? Is it to feel good because although we are a year older, we can still climb the super-steep mountain? Or do we do it to keep ourselves from partying too hard the night before? For everyone, there is a different motivation. For me, I love to hike. I love to climb to the top of a windy precipice and appreciate God's great earth. I love the smell of the desert, the sun on my face, and the taste of my homemade energy bar (which some people like to call "pound cake") Another year, another accent. One more reason I live in Arizona!
